The Varsity made the long drive up to LaVille Saturday morning to play a conference match. After a so-so match Thursday night against Northwestern, the Lady Panthers were looking to bounce back. LaVille came out ready to play in the first set and kept it tight through the first 10 points or so. However some tough serving from Pioneer’s Jara Esnal let the Panthers pull away and cap off the set 25-15. The second set was a different story and Pioneer had to dig deep and overcome errors to win a long extended set with the score of 31-29. They were however, able to refocus and play a third set very similar to the first and win in convincing fashion 25-14.
Leading the Panthers defensively was Mackenzie Walker who had 32 digs. Hailey Cripe played a solid all around game with 16 digs, five kills, two aces and two blocks. Jara Esnal rallied off 12 straight service points to close out the first set. She also had 13 digs, five kills and five aces on the day. Libero Mackenzie Robinson contributed with nine digs of her own. Madison Blickenstaff led the offensive front with 14 kills and seven digs. Oilivia Brooke had 25 assists for the Panthers, and added eight digs, five kills, one block and an ace. Kennedy Corn rounded out the Lady Panthers stats adding two kills.
The Lady Panthers return home on Tuesday night, with another conference match. They will face the Lady Redskins of Knox. The Varsity game will immediately follow the JV which has a start time of 6:00pm.
