In the opening round of the Caston Tourney, the Pioneer Panther fifth grade boys’ basketball team suffered a 17-3 setback to the the Akron Elementary School Flyers. First game jitters, inefficient offensive execution, and lack of defensive awareness led to the squad’s demise. Members of the team include: #1 Caden Heishman, #2 Aayden Dimmock, #3 Joshua Layman, #4 Memphis McIntire, #5 Nathanial Welker, #6 Tyler Erickson, #13 Camden Conley, #20 Ronald Layer, #24 Blake Haynes, and #28 Colton Hopper. McIntire and Erickson provided the offensive output for the Panthers.
In the consolation game of the Caston Tourney, the Pioneer fifth grade boys’ basketball squad bounced back to defeat the Argos Elementary School Dragons 21-8. An improved offensive performance in concert with better defensive play catapulted the Panthers to the victory. Heishman provided excellent man-to-man pressure defense; while, Conley crashed the offensive and defensive boards. Offensively, McIntire scored 12 points, Layer tallied 7 points, and Conley added a bucket for two points.
The Panther fifth grade boys’ team will travel to Walton this upcoming Tuesday (Nov 17) and compete against the Lewis Cass Elementary School Kings at 6:00.
